UNGS 1201 WEEK 7 : ROLES OF UNIVERSITIES AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Assalamualaikum and hola guyss ! Welcome back to my blog for this week session. As mentioned above, our topic today very close with our status as university students which is roles of universities and the relation with sustainable development. Before we step further, actually what is the meaning of university ? University is an institution of higher learning providing facilities for teaching and research and authorized to grand academic degrees.
So, what's the relation between universities and sustainable development ? Can you storm your brain for a while ? Yass, so universities play an essential role in teaching the younger generation about the wide spectrum of social, economic and environmental global challenges the world is currently facing. This action is very important to increase their awareness and assist them to use their creativity in using any resources on this earth, while leading toward sustainability. As example in the diagram below showed the action took by Plymouth University.
Universities have the responsibility to advocate the importance of SDGs and play their part in fulfilling the SDGs in a few ways which are research, institutional culture and external leadership.
Universities can massively benefit from engaging in SDGs. Do you know why ? Here the reasons :
1. Building impactful and inclusive networks.
2. Reshaping incentives.
3. Preparing public-mindful leaders.
Facing Global Pandemic: University & Sustainability
The Covid-19 pandemic has created the largest disruption of education systems in history. But all the up lines especially in our university already move with many initiatives. As example, follow all the SOPs provided by Ministry of Health, making PPE for frontlines, preparing the food for needy students in campus and much more.
As conclusion, universities really play the main roles to create awareness among students in campus to make them practices now and in the future.
