So, in this time I will share our third session of sustainable development class. We learn about "Relation of Maqasid Al-Shariah (MQS) and Sustainable Development (SD)" . Now, I will explain how this 2 things interrelated. Islam also stress out about sustainability and there are a lot of Quranic verses that mention about sustainability. Islam propagates the idea of mankind as a trustee (khalifah) of the earth in that trust will be questioned in the Day of Resurrection in verse 6 : 165. Besides, Allah also mention in Quran, this universe is created by Allah the Almighty as a gift in verse 45 : 13 and many more.
Before we go deeper, I want you to know first the definiton of Maqasid Al-Shariah. Literally, maqasid and shariah are combination of two words which can be easily understood as the objectives or purposes behind the Islamic rulings. In addition, technically, there are several opinion from Muslim jurists such as Abd al-Malik al-Juwayni, Abu Hamid al-Ghazali, Fakhr al-Din al-Razi, Najm al-Din al-Tufi and al-Qarafi. One of the technical meaning from al-Qarafi states that he linked 'maslahah' (benefits) and 'maqasid' (objective) by a fundamental rule (usuli).
MQS is divided based on 3 level of necessity which are Daruriyyah, Hajiyyah and Tahsiniyyat. Daruriyyah consist of 5 essential necessities as below :
As the conclusion, I really gained a lot of knowledge because before this I never knew that SD can be related to Maqasid Shariah and I really sure that same things goes to you.
